Tesco Finest British Pork & Jalapeño Sausages

For our first review we decided to sample Tesco's most expensive sausage on offer - why not splash out we thought, be extravagant and treat ourselves! Much to our surprise, Ellie and Roddy's Perfect Little Pork Sausages clocked in as the most expensive sausages at £8.95 per kg, a Debbie & Andrew's variety of small, disappointing children's sausages - nothing particularly fancy.

Faced now with an entire two bays worth of sausage at our disposal, we had to come up with a different strategy. Andrew was naturally drawn to the Tesco Finest range (on offer at 2 for £5 or £6 for 3 packs with over seventeen varieties!). I'm not sure if it was the fancy packaging or the great value of the deal, but I agreed to give them a try. Aesthetically, we did like the look of the Porkinson Bangers , featuring bow tie packaging, but Andrew was desperate to get his hands on the limited edition pork and jalapeño sausages, so we opted for these in the end.

We grilled the sausages straight out of the packaging and served with baked beans and toast

Overall we both enjoyed the sausage, it was nice, meaty and juicy. As far as my taste buds were concerned, these bangers packed plenty of Jalapeno heat, but for Andrew's Belizean tastes the chilli just wasn't hot enough! We both liked the subtle use of honey which gave the sausage a spicy sweet aftertaste. Beans and toast probably wasn't the best accompaniment, but we reckon the sausage would be great served straight off a BBQ, into french bread with salad and some good-old tommy sauce. I also reckon it would go well in one of my sausage risottos - we'll have to post the recipe soon!
